Once your child has mastered the basics of proper swimming, they can move on to development classes that will build them up to higher skill levels. Our classes take what your child has already learned and help them to keep improving further, even into competitive levels.

What We Teach

In the development classes, our focus is on building on the basic foundational swimming skills your child has already learned. We work on skills that help swimmers get closer to a competitive skill level.

This means teaching a range of skills, including:

Proper technique in all 4 strokes
Overall fitness & strength
Breath-holding & control
Kicks
Posture & body position

The skills your child has already acquired will be further refined at this level. Development swim classes are 30 minutes long.

When is my child ready for advanced swim classes?

That’s left up to the swimming instructors in charge of the advanced classes. Your child should be evaluated and will be allowed to advance if the instructor feels that they’ve mastered the skills learned from previous classes.
What if my child isn’t progressing?

Children often progress at different speeds. Some progress is incremental and difficult to notice. If you’re concerned about your child’s progression, talk to their swimming instructor to see if they can identify any contributing factors or if they can offer an alternate perspective.
How can I help my child develop their swimming skills at home?

You can encourage your child to practice the skills they’ve been learning in classes, even when they’re not attending the classes or are on break. Skills and progress can be built at home just as easily, as long as your child is practicing the same techniques.
